๐Ÿ–๏ธ How we Handle OOO (Vacation, Etc.)

Summary

We both welcome and encourage everyone at Otto to take vacations and unplug, as well as take time out of office (OOO) for personal reasons.

Part of working hard is working smart and we believe that well rested people make smarter decisions.

During OOO periods weโ€™ll tag you on relevant work matters related to you, as a way of helping you get up to speed when you come back online, but WE EXPECT NO RESPONSE. To help us do this communicate effectively as stated below ๐Ÿค—:

How to communicate about being OOO

  1. Complete or delegate any key tickets/tasks that may act as a blocker to other peopleโ€™s tickets/tasks
  2. Proactively drop a slack message in the #general, tagging @channel or relevant team member about your OOO time, including:
    1. Detailing the specific dates you will be out and when you will return to work.
    2. Communicate any key work priorities that have been completed or delegated
  3. In event of minor or major personal emergencies
    1. Please call @Bradley Opere or @Dev or @Jeanette Wairimu to let them know what is going on. They will communicate to the team on your behalf in a way that respects your situation.
    2. If you canโ€™t call, remember the value of *Grace, and know that we will understand and support you prioritizing your wellbeing.
    3. In the vein of our values of *Responsibility` and *Transparency, once you have the time and space, please reach out and communicate the situation either on your own via slack, or through @Bradley Opere, @Dev, @Jeanette Wairimu if you feel more comfortable.
